Tamarindo children's book, written and interpreted by Karla Florez Albor based on stories from the Caribbean Coast in Colombia, and from tales of El Canal del Dique. Here Mrs. Florez retells stories about the Magdalena River in Colombia, about fishers and fishes and of course about dances, specially those that came from the African heritage side. El Son de Negro is a traditional dance from El Canal del Dique area. The dancers paint their bodies with black and dance following the drum rhythms while making funny gestures with their faces. This traditional dance is performed during Barranquilla's Carnival in Colombia. Mrs. Florez brings this dance alive in her workshops. She reads her book Tamarindo children book, while she teaches and dances the basic movements. Participants enjoy the traditional song that has a similar name from which the book is inspired "La rama del Tamarindo". Everybody has a

Micifuz y Robustiana (Adaptation to Dance and Storytelling from Sevillana song singers Los hermanos de Hispalis) Two cats, two lovers, and so many kitties! This song retells the story of two cats that fall in love, get married and have a family and live happily ever after! Dancing a Sevillana, Mrs. Florez uses the Smart board technology, the dance and the clapping rhythm to get the students to participate in this performance. The Spanish pronunciation particularly form Spain as well as the clapping and "salero" that is common from this country is part of the show.
Her performances are focused in Teaching Spanish Through the Art, and folk dance and music play an essential roll in the interpretation. Students from UNIS in Queens enjoyed Mrs. Florez performances.Grades from 1rst to 8th were participating actively in this event.
